Who we are

A family heating team, from Solihull.

Pro-Tect Heating & Plumbing Ltd is a family-run business based at Virginia House on the Warwick Road in Olton, Solihull. It was founded in 2019 by directors Jason Lawrence and Michael Jones, and today runs as a small, close team of five — including an apprentice we're bringing up in the trade. Between us there is more than fifty years of combined heating and plumbing experience.

We're Gas Safe registered under number 637911 and LPG qualified, so we can work on mains gas and on bottled or bulk-gas properties off the network. As a Vaillant Approved and Baxi Associate installer we fit new boilers to manufacturer standard — which is what makes an extended manufacturer warranty possible — and we're a vetted Trust-a-Trader member rated 5 out of 5.

The work runs from annual gas appliance servicing and landlord gas safety checks to new boiler installations, powerflushing and heating upgrades — additional and designer radiators, unvented hot water cylinders, underfloor heating and smart controls like Hive and Nest. Alongside the heating we take on everyday plumbing: leak detection and repair, outside taps, full bathrooms and macerator replacement.

We cover Solihull and the surrounding areas — Castle Bromwich, Kingshurst, Smiths Wood, Fordbridge, Chelmsley Wood, Meriden, Elmdon and Lyndon — and out into the wider West Midlands, for homeowners and landlords alike. The office is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and there's a 24-hour line for genuine emergencies.

But the clearest picture of Pro-Tect is in the reviews — a straight 5.0 on Google. Jason tracking down a hard-to-find part across three suppliers rather than give up. Mick completing a loft boiler replacement “with minimum disruption and exceptional cleanliness throughout the house.” Prompt, tidy, fair on price, and — in customers' own words — a company you'd recommend without a second thought.

The accreditations we hold

Gas Safe Register

No. 637911

By law, only a Gas Safe registered business may work on your boiler, gas fires and gas appliances. Pro-Tect is registered under number 637911 — the single most important thing to check before you let anyone touch your gas.

Vaillant Approved

Approved installer

Recognised by Vaillant as an approved installer — so a new Vaillant boiler is fitted to the manufacturer's standard and can carry an extended manufacturer warranty.

Baxi Associate

Associate installer

A Baxi associate installer, fitting Baxi boilers to specification with access to extended manufacturer guarantees on qualifying installations.

Trust-a-Trader

Member · 5 / 5

A vetted member of Trust-a-Trader, carrying a 5-out-of-5 member rating — an independent stamp on the standard of work and conduct customers can expect.

LPG Qualified

Bottled & bulk gas

Qualified to work on LPG as well as mains gas, so homes and properties running on bottled or bulk gas — off the mains network — are covered too.

What all this means for you

Put simply: the people in your home are legally registered to work on your gas, recognised by the boiler manufacturers themselves, independently vetted by Trust-a-Trader, and part of a proper limited company you can look up. It's the paperwork behind the “professional and tidy” that the reviews keep mentioning — and we're happy to show our registration on request.

Care & maintenance guide

Small habits that keep the heating bill down.

A little care through the year keeps small heating problems small — and keeps your boiler running when you need it most. Here's what the Pro-Tect team suggests keeping an eye on, season by season.

Autumn

Get ahead of the heating season

  • Book your annual gas appliance service before the cold sets in — it's the cheapest way to avoid a mid-winter breakdown, and it keeps your boiler warranty valid.
  • Bleed your radiators: cold patches at the top mean trapped air and wasted gas.
  • Run the heating for a full cycle now, while an engineer can still get to you without a queue.

Winter

Protect against the freeze

  • Lag exposed pipes in lofts, garages and outbuildings — a burst frozen pipe is one of the most common and most damaging winter callouts.
  • Know where your internal stopcock is, and check it turns, so you can shut the water off fast if a pipe does go.
  • If you're away, leave the heating ticking over on a low frost setting rather than off completely.

Spring

Check what winter left behind

  • Look around the boiler and cylinder for any signs of a slow leak or corrosion that built up over winter.
  • Cold spots and a noisy boiler? A powerflush clears the sludge that builds up in an ageing system.
  • Give an outside tap a check before you need it — winter frost can crack the pipework serving it.

Summer

The best time for bigger work

  • Planning a new boiler or an upgrade? Summer is the quietest, most comfortable time to have it done.
  • Consider smart controls like Hive or Nest now, so you're ready to save from the first cold day.
  • Run the heating briefly even in warm months — it stops valves and pumps seizing while they sit idle.

Great communication from Jason from the moment I got in touch. Helped us find a more affordable product replacement (replacing an old, expensive macerator). The team was friendly, polite and delivered great work at a very fair price. Would hire again without giving it a second thought.
